By George, Hard Rock sends a message

By John Katsilometes

The sign for Wasted Space, which is a new club at the Hard Rock Hotel, which is a rival of the Palms, which is in the background.

This afternoon I was driving along Flamingo Road, heading west across I-15, and hit the stoplight.

Suddenly, I felt wasted, thanks to a strategically positioned billboard.

As a long trail of cars waited for the green where Flamingo meets the I-15, I could not help but notice a big Hard Rock Hotel-Wasted Space billboard partially obscuring the view of the Palms, which is one of the Hard Rock’s more fierce rivals. “Rock and Roll Decadence,” reads the sign, which is to promote Carey Hart’s new club at the hotel. Wasted Space opens tonight with a bunch of stars (two Maddens and a Hilton, is what the ubiquitous Robin Leach is reporting) and should set the nightclub world ablaze for, oh, 48 hours at least.

I don’t know how long the Wasted Space billboard will be up in George Maloof’s back yard, but we can’t wait to see what the Palms owner might have in mind for retaliation.
