Le Reve dries off for Dancing with the Stars

The Wynn’s watery show spectacular, Le Rêve is drying itself off and trimming itself down. No, the critically acclaimed showcase is not the latest to fall victim to recession-related cutbacks; the show itself isn’t changing at all. The production is shrinking for one, one-time and very special, small screen debut. A condensed patchwork of Le Rêve’s signature stylized choreography will be featured on an upcoming episode of ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Nineteen of the show’s cast of 90 performers ... Hitting on waitresses with funny man David Spade

David Spade admits he’s “kind of turned into a Vegas guy” – even if he is a self-described “old man.” He’s been performing in Vegas for years – his last stint was in January – and the 44-year-old comedian returns to the Venetian on April 2 for the first of a dozen sure-to-be-funny engagements this year. After performing (and partying) in Las Vegas for years, Spade’s reputation as one of L.A’s most notorious party boys has transcended the California-Nevada line. ... Read more...

Tepid but true to form, Rickles jabs away onstage at The Orleans

I was shocked to hear of George Carlin’s passing soon after I caught what proved to be his last show in Las Vegas. After this, I was a little afraid to go see Don Rickles last night, as my superstition almost got the best of me. Am I the Grim Reaper for aging comedians? I’m glad to report Rickles made it through his performance, despite my presence. The elderly insult comic was as full of piss and vinegar as ever. ... Read more...

Men of X do it nightly

I was supposed to be drooling, not laughing, but I couldn’t help it. The ultra-masculine cast of Men of X, the brand new male revue at Hooters Hotel & Casino, danced, dry-humped and sex-stared their way through every prosaic female fantasy: fireman, pilot, construction worker/handy man, police officer, cowboy, soldier, James Bond, doctor, vampire, SWAT team—even silver-gloved, moonwalking Michael Jackson (not for me, but to each his own). They also simulated a whole lot of sex, oral and otherwise. The ... Read more...

Cheech and Chong to smoke Vegas

As much as fun as it would have been to write “Cheech and Chong to light up the Joint,” the duo’s next Vegas appearance won’t be at the Hard Rock. The Marriage Counselor comes to town

Watching Tyler Perry’s play The Marriage Counselor is much like attending a relationship seminar at church, except you laugh the entire time and actually enjoy the music. You’ll be drawn into the living room of a married couple who argue, converse and tease each other with the room-shaking voices and spastic body language of a Hallelujah gospel choir. As can be inferred from the title, the play deals with the perennial topic of marriage, its challenges and rewards and male-female ... Read more...

UNLV presents theater for generation A.D.D.

If you’ve ever wished theater would catch up with the short attention span of today’s Facebook and fast food generation, then you might like UNLV’s 10-minute plays. While just as immediately pleasurable as a YouPorn clip or an In ‘n’ Out drive-thru, the shorts are anything but superficial. Sample Childcare in Crocodiles, (“Herpetology and baby-sitting in the dark,” according to the playwright, ... Read more...

A culinary throwdown livens up the International Restaurant Show

In recent years the kitchen has become a battleground rather than a sanctuary, a place where chefs meet to fight over whose food is better and cook for fame and acclaim. In the new kitchen, strategy is nearly as important as flavor profiles and searing techniques, and TV competitions like Top Chef and Hell’s Kitchen pit chefs against each other in an attempt to name a culinary champion. In Japanese import Iron Chef the kitchen set used on the show ... Read more...
