A wee little problem for the Tea Party’s party?

Organizers of Saturday’s Tea Party “Showdown in Searchlight” rally told the Las Vegas Sun they felt 38 portable toilets would be “adequate” for the event, which is expected to draw anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 people. Yeech. Let’s say the Showdown lasts four hours. And let’s say only 5,000 people arrive. If that’s the case, then MesaWasteServices.com, an online “toilet rental co-op,” recommends renting 40 toilets. Now let’s say the Showdown (still four hours) actually draws 10,000 guests. Well, in ... Read more...

What are the Odds?

First things first: Book of Odds is not an actual book; it’s a website. Don’t feel bad. The name is misleading, and we were confused ourselves until a kind representative of said website explained it to us by saying, “There’s no book… kinda like Facebook isn’t a book either.” With that out of the way, let’s talk about what Book of Odds — err, BookofOdds.com — actually is: The odds on everyday life. The site is full of interesting facts ... Read more...

I wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener…

Food, family and fun are the three facets of the Oscar Mayer empire. This according to Hotdogger Guadalupe Martinez, whose title within the company really is “hotdogger” and who also answers to her official company-given nickname “Guac-alupe.” That’s a nice reminder that we should be thinking about the iconic and wholesome — rather than the obviously phallic — nature of the Wienermobile. This custom ride is eight feet wide, 11 feet high and 27 feet long or, if you prefer ... Read more...

Twilight’ fans answer all

The Weekly doesn’t care if you are Team Edward, Team Jacob or Team Hamburglar. We cruised Walmart’s sparkly midnight release party for Twilight: New Moon to ask the tough questions, like whether Chuck Norris rules the Twiuniverse the way he rules this one. Check out the insight these Twihards offered: What is the best Twilight drinking game? “Drink every time Bella is thinking about Edward. That will get you drunk the quickest.” — Marcie Rosales, 24 “Take a shot if ... Read more...

Sorry, Charlie

Last night with little fanfare and few witnesses, Restaurant Charlie said goodbye to Las Vegas. I was there — for the first and last time — to see it off. Sometimes in Vegas things close with great theatrics. We implode our buildings, hold wild parties to celebrate a show’s end and dance until dawn on a club’s last night of life. But other things slip away more quietly. Restaurant Charlie nodded off with barely a death rattle. Perhaps that’s because ... Read more...

Don’t forget your rubber!

Remembering to wear green today comes pretty easily — all it takes is a pinch from that weird guy in accounting that has been looking for a reason to touch you for months — but did you remember your rubber? No, we are not talking about that Trojan stuffed in your wallet. We know that is a lost cause, and we think you secretly do, too. We are talking about rubber bands, because today, in addition to being that Irish ... Read more...

Despite what others think, I am neither boring nor a stripper

“You’re boring.” It has been only minutes since I met the woman when she tells me this. She’s a Vietnamese stripper with long hair, braces and the smoothest skin I’ve ever felt. She’s just taken my hand and run it down the side of her nearly naked body. She must exfoliate, I think, before remembering I should be angry. “You’re not drinking,” she complains. I explain that I am sobering up. What I don’t tell her is the full story: ... Read more...

Putting your little red dress on

Beauty Bar hosted the fourth annual Red Dress event February 27, a charity benefit to raise money for Sisters AIDS Drug Assistance Program (SADAP). The packed party featured communal cake, performances, a costume contest and, of course, plenty of red dresses. The latter offered plenty of life lessons, including: Fashion takes sacrifice This homemade garment, which snagged the title of Most Futuristic, goes a long way with a few zip ties, ribbons and red hard plastic, but there’s a price ... Words from the fast lane

The Weekly crashed the tailgating madness at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend in hopes of having deep revelations on life in the fast lane. We failed, but here’s some funny stuff we overheard: “I took my man bag off…” — a man telling someone over the phone about how he lost his sunglasses. “Vegas is just one line after another.” — tourists waiting in a snaking line of thousands waiting for shuttle busses back to their hotel. “It this ...
