When Brett Rubin was 19 years old he bought his first set of turntables along with four crates of hip-hop records. It was a good first effort, but within one week Brett had sold all the hip-hop records and had begun digging for electronic music at his local record shop in Tucson, Arizona. Beginning with a deep trance sound that was big in the late ‘90s, Brett went on a nine year musical journey, experimenting with many different styles and sounds ranging from deep house to downtempo, funky house, hard house, trance, electro, tech house, techno, breaks and progressive. This wide range of musical tastes has helped to form the genre-crossing style prominent in Rubin’s sets today.
While at the University of Arizona, Brett played at many house parties, and a few nightclub events, but it wasn't until he studied in Italy in 2001-2002 that he began his first residency at Andromeda nightclub. After college Brett became the resident DJ at the Green Room in Chicago, and after over a year at the Green Room, Brett moved on to pursue the marketing and promotions side of the nightlife business. Once he had established himself as a promoter in Chicago, Rubin returned to the turntables in 2005, this time at Jet Vodka lounge where he also worked as Marketing Director. The following year he took another break from DJing and moved Las Vegas to act as the marketing coordinator for Light Nightclub at Bellagio. Just six months after arriving, Rubin’s love for electronic dance music had pulled him back into the DJ booth. In the last year and a half, Rubin has had the honor of sharing the stage with great DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Sharam, Bob Sinclar, Starkillers, Austin Leeds, D:fuse, Second Sun, Cedric Gervais, Trent Cantrelle and many more. Currently, Brett is the Thursday night resident at Drai’s, Friday resident at Teatro Afterhours, Saturday resident at Seamless Afterhours, and a monthly resident at Prive and Empire Ballroom. Rubin also brings his infectious sound to events at clubs and pools around the country in Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, Arizona and Texas.
