One of the world's best known DJs, Paul Oakenfold was born in England where he began playing music in the '70s. However, Oakenfold's first music industry job was not as a musician - Oakenfold worked as an A&R man for Profile Records and Def Jam, during which time he signed DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince and Salt-n-Pepa and became the British representative for The Beastie Boys and Run-D.M.C.
In the 1980s, Oakenfold started producing music himself, stepping behind the turntables for his now famous parties on the Spanish island of Ibiza.
Oakenfold became one of the earliest DJs to become a household name, not only playing to thousands at nightclubs and on tours, but producing remixes for many of the most popular artists of the last 20 years under his Perfecto label. In 1992, Oakenfold's remix of U2's "Even Better Than the Real Thing" reached a higher position on the charts than the original version of the song.
Fall 2008 brought Oakenfold to Las Vegas, where he has made a home for himself with a Saturday night residency at Rain nightclub at the Palms. Perfecto Saturdays now bring in the top names in DJ entertainment as well as dancers, aerialists and massive crowds.
