The Joy of Sex, an exhibition at little-known west-side Euro-contemporary art haunt White Square Gallery, is not for the faint of heart, but if the idea of art is to expand your notions of any given concept, this is a true triumph. Based loosely on Dr. Alex Comfort’s book, Sex includes everything from hand drawings of genitals to vinyl nude portraits, immaculate ball-point-pen etchings of foot fetishism and videos of what could be cooked genitals, all topped off by the explicit yet absolutely beautiful works of world-renowned Swedish fashion photographer Diane Scheunemann. Oppressive, yes, but also arrestingly beautiful.
