Aliante Station: Dime-store modern
Thu, Dec 11, 2008 (midnight)
Aliante Station, which opened on November 11, is a 202-room, $662 million hotel and casino that feels like Red Rock’s off-the-rack cousin.

The 202-room, $662 million Aliante Station* in North Las Vegas feels like an off-the-rack Red Rock. Both share a desert-modern vibe of textured-rock-meets-sheets-of-glass, but where Red Rock benefits from an impressive, curving bronzed-glass wall framed by rugged flagstone, Aliante, designed by Friedmutter Group, is blocky and squat, solid but undistinguished.

Things improve inside: The boutiquey lobby is full of graceful stone accents; the casino area—restaurants, sports book, movie theaters and lounge—more successfully carries over cues from Red Rock (toning down its larger sibling’s clashing décors).
But it’s Aliante’s incongruous touches that leave the strongest memory. The pool area looks chic, but is positioned near the noisy corner of Aliante Parkway and the 215. A mountain view is partially obscured by traffic lights. Like the building, it’s a good idea in search of better execution.

Aliante is really a great property...and for North Las Vegas residents an excellent source of food and entertainment.
