Everyone in the lunatic fringe of America’s Southern-tinged swamp-rock scene knows Th’ Legendary Shack*Shakers vocalist and all-around madman, Col. J.D. Wilkes. His wild, unpredictable and always enthralling stage presence has been compared to that of David Byrne and Iggy Pop, and even as you read this, Wilkes has a warrant out for his arrest in Tennessee for indecent exposure. With all of his notoriety, though, who would have thought that the 36-year-old is also a filmmaker? His documentary, Seven Signs (showing before the band plays), explores the music and myths floating around in the American South. So go grab a Pabst, sit down, get yer learnin’ on and then see a cool show. It don’t get much more easier than that.

With the Yeller Bellies. July 9, 10 p.m., $10. Beauty Bar, 598-1965.
