Double up on stand-up
Thu, Jun 26, 2008 (midnight)
The Beauty Bar is certainly known for its live music and DJ sets, but thus far it has yet to fully embrace the potential of live humor. That all changes this week, as two locally produced endeavors welcome big-name comics to the remodeled back patio. First up, Jason Harris and Doug Reed of the Not So Beautiful Comedy Show present Andy Andrist, member of Doug Stanhope’s notorious Unbookables contingent and star of HBO’s upcoming Down and Dirty with Jim Norton. (Andrist also performs at the 420 Smoke Shop and Elev8 Hookah Lounge’s benefit show for Baskin Park shooting victim Chris Luscombe June 28, $10, 257-0420.) That gives you a few nights to rest up before the Backyard Comedy Show returns to its usual shenanigans, with Brandt Tobler and Matt Markman welcoming Doug Benson, of Best Week Ever, Super High Me and Last Comic Standing, who promises to deliver a smooooking set like no other.
Andy Andrist. June 27, 9 p.m., $10. Doug Benson. July 3, 8 p.m., $15. Beauty Bar, 598-1965.
