Man, I love these BluBlockers

Oh yeah, I gotta get me some…

Businesses often celebrate store openings, new restaurants and… kiosks? Yeah, those little portable stands selling anything from cheap hair extensions to jewelry cleaner. So what exactly is this weekend’s Rock the Square event celebrating? Claiming to be “the ultimate summer block party,” BluBlockers is going all out to party in honor of their little outlet in front of Brio at Town Square. Yes, the same BluBlockers sunglasses from the cheesy commercials of our youth. The same shades favored by the silver-haired set and Santa Claus.

In what we’ve determined as an effort to rebrand the sunglasses’ image (hipsters, take note), the grand opening of the kiosk (seriously, not even a store, but a kiosk) will include music provided by Love It Or Leave It, Yultron and A Phoenix Forever. There will be breakdancing by local crew Knucklehead Zoo, and Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s brother, Silkski, will perform his own version of the BluBlocker rap. Wanna get in on the action August 29 from 3 to 9 p.m.? Bring your board for a skateboarding competition, as well. And if you’ve forgotten how rockin’ those BluBlockers are, a fashion show with the latest shades and Blond America clothing should fill in the blanks. Take that, UV rays.
