Area 702 Indoor Skatepark concert canceled by fire marshals
New all-ages venue will be quiet this weekend

Area 702 Indoor Skatepark in North Las Vegas began hosting concerts last weekend, but the Dec. 17 show was abruptly canceled after fire marshals raised concerns over occupancy levels and the amount of power delivered to amplifiers.

Metal fans expecting to spend tonight rocking out to LA-based heavy metal outfit In This Moment at Area 702 Skatepark, will have to find somewhere else to get their musical fix. The skatepark, which began hosting all-ages shows last weekend, was shut down today around 3:45 p.m. after a surprise visit from North Las Vegas fire marshals.
According to skatepark owner Tim Thurtle, the marshals’ decision to close the all-ages venue stemmed from concerns over occupancy levels and what Thurtle described as “small technical issues” with wiring and the amount of power being delivered to amplifiers at the new music venue. Area 702 Skatepark could not provide the necessary documentation to keep the park open and to keep In This Moment plugged in for tonight’s show. Tickets for the concert, which cost $13 and also included local bands And She Whispered and Ministry of Love, have been refunded.
The local skatepark located in North Las Vegas at Simmons Street and Cheyenne Avenue kicked off its transformation into a music venue last weekend with three shows, including a concert by the Vandals. The Winds of Plague concert slated for December 18 at Area 702 has been moved to The Farm, located at 5597 S Rainbow Blvd. Originally booked for December 19, Smash Magazine’s Christmas concert benefiting the Whitney Elementary School has been canceled. On the lineup were bands Play For Keeps, Red Wine Rewind and One Pin Short.
