Ever since the Jets and the Sharks dance/brawled through the streets of New York in West Side Story, the dance battle has established itself as an especially stylish brand of urban warfare. There’s the snapping, the trash talking and the awe-inspiring moves that somehow bridge the gap between performance and combat art. Simply put, it’s the baddest-ass dance form to ever pull a headspin.

On January 2, b-boys from California, Las Vegas and beyond will gather at Cherry Nightclub for the Deuces Wild dance battle. They’ll unleash street-dance arsenals stocked with windmills, freezes and air flares; the winner goes home with $1,000 in cash. Also, reps from a pair of Vegas crews—America’s Best Dance Crew-winning Full Force/Super Cr3w and Battle Born—will square off, exhibition-style, with local honor on the line.
