Dunk this!
Thu, Jul 2, 2009 (midnight)
This Dunkin’ idea is more of a sinker.
“Invite, Order, Run, Enjoy.” The idea of Dunkin’ Donuts’ new Dunkin’ Run website was, I thought, to order your doughnuts online and have them waiting for you at the drive-through. Sounds deliciously over-convenient.
I registered at dunkinrun.com, picked a “run time” and invited my friends (in a process annoyingly similar to Facebook); they perused the menu and ordered, and—what!?
“Print the order. Go to any Dunkin’ Donuts. Give the person behind the counter this page.”
For this I gave my e-mail address to Dunkin’? For this I watched an animated on-site video called “How it Works”? For this I have yet another website with a “Profile” and “Friends” that I can group into special subgroups? So that I can print out a list? Color me strawberry sprinkles.
The doughnuts were good. I got junk e-mail from Dunkin’ the next day.
