This will look good on the mantle

I raised my eyebrows when the name quickly changed from “ND’s Fuego” to “ND’s the Club.” The lack of restrooms or a packed dance floor also concerned me. A hodgepodge of go-go costumes, including dorsal fins, zombie nurses and a ribbon dancer straight out of 1980-something, prompted me to bet a co-worker ND’s wouldn’t last until the end of summer.

ND's the closed (06/14/09)

Text messages Friday night confirmed the club was all but finished while Nadia Ali was still onstage. Yet, it’s always fun to have a souvenir from a venue about to shutter the doors. A few glasses of wine and peer pressure made me decide that, instead of stopping by ND’s logo-laden shop on the way out, a votive holder from an empty VIP table was the perfect memento. Maybe I’ll give it to a former employee whose paycheck bounced so he or she isn’t left completely empty-handed.
