Amen Corner: DUI-ers should be thumb-lopped

Las Vegas Weekly Staff

Thu, Mar 12, 2009 (midnight)

Let’s face it: The penalty system in this country for drunk drivers is a goddamn joke. A fine, a suspended license and classes add up to ... ever-increasing numbers of dumbasses who drive inebriated (and victims of said dumbasses). Obviously, our system isn’t very intimidating. So we applaud at least the effort in Nevada to give it more teeth. If approved, it would require DUIers to attend “victim impact sessions”—meeting first-hand those who have lost loved ones or friends to drunk drivers. Not exactly thumb-lopping, but we’ll take it for now.

Since when is combining quotes from Mayor Goodman with the last meeting of MADD considered journalism. Sure it is popular to burn a drunk driver at the stake but at .08 are we really impaired or are we just slaves to the Conservatives who would like to force their Puritan values on the masses? Is it possible that there is a certain element in the population that can maintain a level head after consuming more than one drink? I think we should lop off the index fingers of the hunt and peck hacks that type this kind of drivel.
