Oil and popcorn do mix

C. Moon Reed

For a while now, it’s been all the rage to eat macaroni and cheese with truffle oil. While the flavor combination involves mixing indulgent comfort food with indulgent gourmet oil, the grouping has always seemed a little too fatty. Also, the strong flavor of the cheese often would overwhelm the delicate flavor of the oil.

However, Zumanity’s concession stand offers a lighter culinary concoction: truffle-oil popcorn, the perfect marriage of oil and the blank canvas of popcorn. For $8, Zumanity spectators can enjoy Oral Fixation, the kinky name for this combination.

Just as Cirque du Soleil didn’t invent the circus, this flavor combo is not unique to the back hallways of the theater. Food & Wine Magazine lists a recipe online, in addition to a smattering of Internet recipes.

But the real temptation lies in the aroma. Zumanity’s production coordinator Sharean Oxley says, “We have to smell it every day, and it’s a total exercise of my will power not to go down and get some.”
