Suggestion Box: Gibbons needs a cat
Thu, Nov 12, 2009 (midnight)
There’s a great cartoon called Garfield Minus Garfield; its artist reprints old Garfield comics, but removes the cat. This leaves Jon Arbuckle talking to himself, turning his words into unwitting self-examinations. Which brings us to Gov. Gibbons. Now, he’s not fared well in this space, as we’ve ridiculed everything from his no-tax hardheadedness to his marital woes. But there was something ... sad about the guv in a Monday Review-Journal story about his lousy poll numbers. Like Jon talking to a nonexistent cat, when Gibbons insists he can win re-election, it’s like he’s muttering to himself in public. So we say, sit the next one out, G. Restore your dignity. Chill. Maybe get a cat.
