As relieved as we were to hear that a Nevada district court judge will allow the students of Green Valley High School’s drama department to stage two productions that deal with homosexuality, Rent and The Laramie Project, we’re still pretty pissed off that it was ever an issue to begin with. Yes, the stage functions to entertain, but it also serves to educate. It’s the slickest of slopes when those in authority start cherry-picking which plays are “acceptable” and which ones are harmful. It’s even more egregious when it happens at an institution that purports to want to teach our children so they can go out and make decisions on their own. Besides, Rent won Tonys, okay?
