The Clydesdale
Clementine

The Clydesdale.
The fourth album from local alt-country mainstay The Clydesdale finds powerhouse singer Paige Overton stepping aside for guitarist and fellow singer Andrew Karasa, who here takes the lead on more than half of the 11 tracks (whereas before he’d only handled a few). Overton’s rich, evocative tones are seriously missed, although the four songs she does helm are strong (especially the lively “Wanted Man”).
The Details
Karasa isn’t a bad singer, but his voice is less distinctive, and too many of his songs are jokey larks (“You Ain’t Good Enough for My Sister,” the weirdly crass “Elton John”), while others never take off. The two singers trade verses on the atmospheric narrative “The Will,” which manages to combine all the band’s strengths into a roiling country ballad. A little more of that, and a little less goofing off, would have made Clementine as rewarding an experience as The Clydesdale’s excellent live shows.
