Suggestion Box: Represent the voters, Reid
Thu, Oct 22, 2009 (midnight)
Believe it or not, the fate of health-care reform may rest soundly within the hands of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who as we speak is being pressured by progressives to include the public option in the final health-care reform bill. At the same time, Reid is shown to be trailing in polls, despite a spike in voters registering Democrat. Here’s a piece of advice for the guy from Searchlight, whether he wants it or not: In politics, polls are of the moment. Elections are of the moment. Calling someone a socialist is of the moment. Legacies are where it’s at. You’re faced with the hard, cold fact that the majority of the country wants the public option. So stop giving a crap about being bipartisan and—gasp!—actually represent the voters. It looks way better in the history books.
