- Pahrump Film Festival
It’s no CineVegas, but the Pahrump Film Festival is entering its third year, having expanded in 2008 from the patio at the Red Sky BBQ into the restaurant’s parking lot. It’ll return this year to the parking lot to showcase homegrown Pahrump film Dorks on the Moon (which, uh, also played last year’s festival) as well as classic B-movie Killers From Space and two local short films.
Okay, so it’s more like a film evening than a film festival, but it’s clearly all in fun; the top prize at last year’s festival was dinner for two at Red Sky. And cheesy low-budget sci-fi has become something of a cottage industry for Southern Nevada filmmakers, led by veteran B-movie magnate Ted V. Mikels, who made an appearance at last year’s festival. No word if Mikels will make it this year, but either way, his spirit will certainly be represented.
