And by “retro,” this may not be what they had in mind.

Who wants to sip Bombay Sapphire martinis with the mayor, help raise funds for the Downtown arts scene and be the face of First Friday for a year?

In conjuncture with the seventh anniversary of the monthly First Friday Downtown arts festival, the first ever Miss First Friday will be named on October 2. Time’s almost up for ladies to enter, though the deadline has been extended until this Sunday night.

“The main thing is just having somebody out there representing,” says Rick Dominguez, creator of the Miss First Friday contest and a local performance art director. Because of the diverse group of people that attend First Friday each month, he says they’re looking for a representative for the arts with a semi-retro look that also participates in the local scene.

The Details

First Friday
October 2, 6-10 p.m.
$2, Downtown Arts District

First Friday

Miss First Friday’s duties will include being involved in local events and parades and speaking about First Friday at group and city events. She’ll also assist with fund raising for the non-profit event and likely do a lot of waving. You know, the closed fingered kind like Miss America. And Miss First Friday can also be a Mrs., as long as she’s over 21, resides in Clark County and submits quality recent pictures, a bio and a statement as to why First Friday is important to Las Vegas.

Initially, the contest requested applicants also raise $100 in sponsorship funds, but Dominguez says they’re not as concerned with the money as finding the right applicant who can help with fundraising in the future.

Not interested in competing but still want to be involved? The top contestants selected will be voted upon by e-mail. For more information on competing or about the contest, e-mail rick@whirlygiglasvegas.org and visit the Facebook event page.
