Exit Through the Gift Shop Genuine documentary or clever hoax? Either way, street artist Banksy’s film serves as a bitterly hilarious illustration of the way radical concepts get appropriated by the talentless and watered down for mass consumption. Now playing at Village Square.
Restrepo This year-long look at Afghanistan’s deadliest war zone is equal parts horrifying combat and banal outpost life. There’s also a fruitless negotiation involving a dead cow. Somehow, it all fits together. Now playing citywide.
Louie Comedian Louis C.K.’s life in New York, intertwined with stand-up bits. Heartfelt, brutal, often hysterically funny. Don’t believe us? Watch the first seven minutes of Episode 2. Currently airing on FX; catch up on previous episodes at Hulu.
Parks Fee-free days! On August 14 and 15, the U.S. National Park Service will waive entrance fees at 100 parks—including Lake Mead Recreational Area. Take advantage and visit the unnatural wonder, before it dries up and disappears forever.
Rush The adore ’em-or-despise ’em Canadian trio brings all of 1981’s Moving Pictures and tons more to the MGM Grand on Saturday. How best to warm up? The all-day RushCon convention (rushcon.org) across the street at Hooters Casino, of course. Need still more rock? Coheed & Cambria/Porcupine Tree and Primus hit the Joint pre- (Friday night) and post-Rush (Saturday at midnight), respectively.
Chamber music The Green Valley Chamber Music Festival: stellar classical sounds—and they’re free. August 13-15, UNLV’s Doc Rando Recital Hall, nsamusic.org.
Charlie Murphy He’s best known for his tenure on Chappelle’s Show. Not so much for his portrayal of Al Sharpton in Adult Swim’s Freaknik: The Musical. August 12, House of Blues.
awkwardfamilypetphotos.com Children napping with ducks on their heads, studio portraits surrounded by rabbits, dogs sniffing human butts. The Awkward Family Photos website had so many submissions featuring animals they launched this spin-off: Bookmark it.
