Sharp-dressed man: Robert Duvall in Get Low

GO

Cake Showdown If you have a sweet tooth for shows like Ace of Cakes, Cake Boss and Cupcake Wars, you’re going to love this cake-off competition, open to confectioners of all skill levels. August 31, 6-10 p.m., Suncoast Hotel & Casino, $10 (or pick up a free pass at Castle of Cakes, 2301 E. Sunset Road).

3D technicolor Pop culture has traditionally bombarded us with hetero love and heroes. Artist Ross Johnston shows it in reverse, including a lip-locked Betty Rubble and Wilma Flintstone. September 2-24, Laura Henkel Fine Art.

Super Happy Funtime Burlesque Funded by online donations, this Michigan-based performance troupe travels in a rented RV—which arrives in Las Vegas this weekend. Come watch Mr. Happy Pants, Miss Audacious and Velveeta the Cheetah perform with local legends Cha Cha Velour and Balloon Master. It’s also probably your only chance to see a RoboCop striptease. August 29, 8 p.m., $10, Aruba Hotel, 1215 Las Vegas Blvd. South, $10.

SEE

Get Low Robert Duvall gives a moving performance in this low-key tale of a hermit who decides to plan his own funeral while he’s still alive. Now playing in select theaters.

True Blood Sex. Drugs. Gay sex. Ripped-out spines. This is the anti-Twilight, and that’s good enough for us. Currently airing on HBO Sundays at 9 p.m.

“Bang Bang” There are local videos, and there are LOCAL VIDEOS. Whether or not you’ve heard of A Crowd of Small Adventures, you really owe it to yourself to dial up the Vegas quartet’s Mike and Jerry Thompson-directed short—and marvel at its next-level production value. Oh yeah, the tune’s damn catchy, too.

VISIT

Marriedtothesea.com So simple, so addictive. Though the website from the comic artists behind the equally entertaining nataliedee.com and toothpastefordinner.com is far from new, its clip art-on-crack keeps us coming back, constantly.
