Beware: Metal McLovin might want to touch your personhood

Photo: Aaron Thompson

He’s known as Metal McLovin, and if you’ve ever been to a metal show in Las Vegas you’ve probably seen him. He sports a jean jacket plastered with metal and classic-rock band patches, black-rimmed glasses and an oddly placed USC Trojans cap—not to mention an eerie resemblance to Superbad actor Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

McLovin (real name: unknown; seriously, he was too wasted to say it intelligibly) and his enthusiasm for metal venture into a realm some might call ... creepy. Last Saturday, as Relapse Records band Cough performed inside Meatheads on South Decatur, McLovin repeatedly attempted to touch the guitar—and personhood—of frontman David Cisco. Cisco rebuffed McLovin’s numerous advances. Undaunted, McLovin then urged me to “get closer” to Cisco. Some strange and scuzzy journo/doom-metal threesome, perhaps? I declined. With apologies to McLovin, I only go for metalheads who look like Michael Cera.
