Local Music: Skorchamenza reunites at Bunkhouse

Skorchamenza isn’t maximum R&B. No, the guys of this band are maximum rock ’n’ roll. Influenced by The Who, the garage-rockers belted out vintage-inspired tunes during a reunion show at the Bunkhouse last Saturday (think The Hives minus the faux-Jagger swagger). The group disbanded last year, but singer Timothy Styles says Skorchamenza won’t be gone forever: “Skorchamenza will be back in the near future. I need this to sweat, bleed and get a little dirt underneath my fingernails.” The band sampled from its six-year catalog and played “Constaladysion,” a song from Vegas’ own Black Camaro—with BC frontman Brian Garth watching from the crowd. These days, Skorchamenza bassist Jesse Del Quadro plays in surf-rock outfit Thee Swank Bastards, while Styles is a regular in the more indie Big Friendly Corporation. So why the reunion? “The town is probably dry as far as rock ’n’ roll,” Styles says. “Why not?”
