Hey! Chill out, Rebel fans

This just in: The UNLV men’s basketball team is off to an impressive start, with a Top 25 ranking and big wins over Wisconsin and Virginia Tech. Apparently the good news has not reached some Rebels fans, who earlier this month were behaving like Biff from the Back to the Future series, inexplicably full of insecure bravado. In Reno, they blasted vuvuzelas at passersby on Virginia Street, clashed with elderly UNR fans in the stands and shouted down the crowd at a mostly hospitable Wolf Pack bar. Things got really ugly after UNLV grabbed a quick 22-6 lead. A couple of fans wearing “Ruck Feno” T-shirts began screaming at their rivals and flipping them the bird. Security officers had to put the worst agitator in a grade-school timeout in an empty section. For a program that has won a national title and holds the third-best all-time win percentage in college hoops, it was pretty puzzling. Especially given that UNR, now 2-7, never stood a chance. If we’re poised to be a powerhouse for years to come—and many believe we are—then fans need to lose the attitude. This Saturday, let’s remind Southern Utah what winners look like.
