Tiny little rant about Obama and Yucca Mountain

Tiny Rant Image

In what we see as a clear attempt to please all sides, President Obama, in his State of the Union address, pledged to foster the proliferation of nuclear power, and proved that with this week’s budget—increasing loan guarantees from $18.5 billion to $54 billion. There’s just one problem: His budget also eliminated all the funds from the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste facility, effectively guaranteeing that all future nuclear waste will be stored at the plants, which Obama says he supports until a safer long-term solution can be found. Hey, Obama—Yucca Mountain has been going on for decades. Unless you’re planning on finding that solution during your term, future generations will have to figure out how to clean up your mess. We hate Yucca Mountain too, but we hate buck-passing even more.
