Staying extreme (read that: extreeeeeeeeeeeme) after 15 years might seem like a difficult feat, but Extreme Thing Sports & Musical Festival seems to have no problem bringing an engaging show year after year. Last week, organizers announced a solid band lineup for its 2010 installment, which is set to take place March 27 at Desert Breeze Skate Park.
The Used will headline the festival on the Verizon Wireless Stage, which also will feature national acts Escape the Fate (from Las Vegas), Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Story of the Year and Winds of Plague. Meanwhile, the Alternative Press Stage will host up-and-coming bands Never Shout Never, Hey Monday, Every Avenue, The Summer Set and hometown rockers The Cab.
Escape the Fate and The Cab won't be the only Las Vegans performing, however. XPOZ will erect a third stage where, similar to last year, seven local bands will have the opportunity to perform. To earn their spot, bands will compete in Battle of the Fans, a series of shows held February 12-20, at Area 702 Skatepark. Contenders include Otherwise, Air Raid Anthem and Saint Rose.

As always, a slew of extreme sports like BMX dirt jumping, professional wrestling and roller derby will be highlighted along with the extreme music. An amateur BMX and skate competition also will be held.
Death Metal Rooster unfortunately will not be making an appearance. We'll cross our fingers for next year.
Tickets for Extreme Thing are $17 presale, $20 at door for general admission. A combo package including a GA ticket, T-shirt and an artist-signed event poster also is available for $35. Both can be purchased at ticketmaster.com, over the phone (702-474-4000) or at participating Smith's Grocery Stores.
