My friend Anisa has been waiting for a vegan-friendly dessert place for three and a half years, ever since she made the decision to cut out all animal products from her life. Me? I go to Cold Stone every Monday and have no beef with eating beef. When Atomic 7 opened this Memorial Day weekend, I knew we had to go.
The seven-step selection process seems overwhelming, but the lab-coat-sporting staff simplified it for me. I went with an all-vegan treat: a Super-Nova sized cup of Ghirardelli chocolate ice cream, made with almond milk and agave syrup, topped with chocolate chips and soy whip cream. Endless options here, perfect for allergies and picky preferences.

With none of that worrying me, only taste concerned me. I was pleasantly surprised. Does it taste exactly like the standard stuff? No, but I left feeling fully satisfied. My dessert was creamy and refreshing. Sure, it lacks the hit-you-over-the-head flavor of unhealthier mainstream desserts, but it never leaves you feeling bloated. It also tasted ridiculously fresh, because it is. Atomic 7 makes their ice cream right in front of you, using nitrogen in a cool science-experiment-gone-right. That's something even carnivores can appreciate.
