The Details
As indicated by the title of his seventh album, Recovery, Eminem is in a better place these days. It’s weird to hear him bragging about his skills in the sack, or urging everyone to get on the dance floor. Such subjects are de rigueur for most rappers, but Eminem usually speaks of his maladjustment. Indeed, he sounds less like the psychopath we fell in love with and more like someone with priorities in order. Though still rapping like he’s trying to win an Olympic speed trial, he’s not saying anything particularly memorable. “I feel like I’m morphing/ Into something that’s so incredible/ That I’m dwarfing all competitors,” he spits on “Seduction.” It’s nice that he’s doing well; it’s just not much fun to listen to.
