"I call it the Robert, because it's the Bobbie's daddy," exclaims Eddie DiBiase, owner of Eddie D's Famous Italian Sandwiches. In case you can't already tell, DiBiase is ready for a little friendly competition with Capriotti's, whose Thanksgiving on a Bun has won citywide and national acclaim. Last week, Eddie launched his own version ... with a few twists: where the Bobbie is served cold, with cranberry sauce and mayo to go with its turkey and stuffing, DiBiase serves his hot, eschews mayo for yellow American cheese (it gets cooked into the turkey on the grill) and serves cranberry sauce on the side. But DiBiase goes one step further, adding his homemade gravy as a dip.

How good was this sandwich? It had mostly disappeared before Eddie could get the cranberry and gravy on the table! Capriotti's has more stores, but—dare we say it?—Eddie might have the better sandwich.
