Wine and ice cream - together at last!
Adults-only desserts at Double Helix Wine Bar
Mon, Mar 8, 2010 (7 p.m.)
Red Raspberry Chardonnay is one of six new wine-flavored ice creams offered at Double Helix Wine Bar at the Shoppes at the Palazzo.
I scream, you scream we all scream for ... wine ice cream?!
Our pinot noir- and riesling-fueled dreams have been answered. Someone — an avid drinker, we'll wager — has finally had the cojones to unite two of man's greatest creations: wine and ice cream.
"And he saw that it was good."
Oh sure, spirited sorbets have been dancing around our crème brûlés, chocolate lava cakes and lacey tuiles for some time now, but those petite quenelles tend to be soft, fast-melting or slushy because of the high alcohol content of some liqueurs. But wine, which hovers in just the 12 percent range, stands up nicely to the cold treatment.
Beginning March 26, Double Helix Wine Bar in the heart of the Shoppes at Palazzo will offer six varieties of rich, Mercers of New York ice cream featuring five wine varietals (Cherry Merlot, Chocolate Cabernet, Peach White Zinfandel, Red Raspberry Chardonnay, Royal White Riesling) and one Ala Port.

You can either enjoy your adulterated treat by the three-ounce scoop for $9, a three-ounce three-flavor flight for $9, or take a whole pint home to the party for $19. But don't worry about getting too tipsy; one pint contains the alcoholic equivalent of a glass of wine. And if you were to happen to be in the vicinity on March 26, Double Helix is offering a $5 tasting of all six flavors from 5-7 p.m. Maybe that would be the time to put a bug in someone's ear about beer sorbet.
There is another company that sell Wine Ice Cream in Vegas. It is called Vineyard Ice Cream. You can buy it at Albertson's in the all natural section. It is only $3.99 a pint much better price then the $19 a pint. It doesn't have alcohol left in it and pairs very nicely with a glass of wine! Check it out! www.vineyardicecream.com
