Sad news for fans of nearly naked chicks: Deadly Seven, the self-described "sluts from hell" known for rambunctious stage antics and an affinity for nipple tape and fake blood has disbanded, but founding member Pride is forging ahead with a new project.
Pride and the Vanities debuted in November at Wasted Space, just before the controversial local punk group Deadly Seven called it quits over creative and personality differences. Pride says it is happenstance the timing worked out that way, adding that the evolution has been natural. Some the Vanities setlist includes material previously performed with D7, and part is original material that never would have worked for the shock-rock group.
"It has an avant-garde feel," Pride says. "It's futuristic. I still love punk rock, but I've always loved electro. Now I'm free to explore. I really love new wave, and that wouldn't have worked in D7. I can be more glam and spunky here."
In a nutshell it's "space travel with sexiness," and for those wishing to take a ride on their space bus, Pride and the Vanities' next performance is Monday at Forbes, opening for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult.
