Onyx Theatre to stage live performance of ‘Rocky Horror Show’
Wed, Oct 13, 2010 (2:02 p.m.)
When Onyx Theatre owner Michael Morse began putting together the venue's first full season, he knew he wanted a benchmark production, something instantly recognizable that would draw newcomers to the little theater inside a fetish shop. The Rocky Horror Show could be just what Morse was looking for.
Calendar
- Rocky Horror Show
- Oct. 15-30, 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (doors at 7 p.m.); additional midnight performance on Oct. 30. $25.
- Onyx Theatre
- 953 E. Sahara Ave.
Public showings of the 1975 Tim Curry-led film (adapted from a British stage play) are nothing new to Vegas: Frankie's Favorite Obsession has run them for a decade, and Onyx's Divine Decadence hosts them twice monthly. But, in hopes of landing a major Strip engagement, the live show held out on Vegas—until now. Onyx swoops in for two weeks of performances, just in time for Halloween.
As with the cult-classic movie, the audience is expected to interact ("Slut!"), but this time the cast will shout back ("Asshole!"). Actor Cory Benway (Frankenfurter) explains, "We know they're going to yell, and we say, 'Bring it.'"
