Wanna get cut? XXXL shirts aren’t just for sleepwear anymore. Transforming tired tees and giant-sized swag has been going on for decades, most notably since Jennifer Beals’ off-the-shoulder sweatshirt in Flashdance. Now, chic boutiques and designers charge beaucoup bucks for one-of-a-kind shredded shirts. If you’re anything like us, hitting up infamous shirt circumciser Adam Saaks’ Melrose Avenue store for some stylish snips is beyond your budget. Why not DIY?
From free swag such as a Blackheart Rum tee to a Mountain Dew logo shirt from good ol’ Wal-Mart, we created unique outerwear with little to no sewing in only an hour. Our bible and inspiration for garment repurposing? Megan Nicolay’s Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt and follow-up Beyond Fashion: 110 New Ways to Transform a T-Shirt. And it’s not just tops; we’ve also made totes, skirts and more thanks to her easy, step-by-step instructions. Reusing your duds instead of ditching them? That’s as green as it gets.
