Breezing down desert highways, we see them. Even when we don't see them, we notice them, briefly, as they flicker in our subconscious, mingling in thoughts that drift in and out on a long stretch of road. These attractions — iconic signs, sculptures and palm trees — planted roadside in the open desert at the dawn of car-culture America became our nostalgia, our collective memories. Bigger roads, freeways and different routes left them abandoned. They weathered the landscape, took their own forms and claimed the desert.

Suzanne Hackett-Morgan's Four Corners exhibit at Trifecta Gallery brings them to us in the form of paintings, providing us the ride we long for sitting at our desks. The Burbank-raised, Las Vegas-based artist has made the treks so many times she, too, could be called of the desert. She reminds us how lucky we are to be out West.
