Phillip Limon is blunt about his gallery's audience: "This is low-brow art." But that's Cornerstone Art Gallery's appeal, he says — it's unlike anything else in the Arts District, and caters to an ever-growing segment of the city: tattoo enthusiasts. "We have the most tattoo parlors per capita in the world," gallery co-owner Limon claims as he shows off his own ink, some of it from artists currently on display at Cornerstone, including local artist Simon Hayag. "This has gone mainstream."

Cornerstone features the works of tattooists and graffiti artists, and it's not all just art meant for your skin. "These are artists who print, sculpt, build," Limon says. His gallery celebrates its one-year anniversary at this week's First Friday, and will feature Studio 21 Tattoo Gallery's exhibit themed after Día de los Muertos — the Day of the Dead. Even the building itself, a converted home, is an exhibit, wrapped in the work of graffiti artists. King Ruck will paint live for First Friday. Limon is nothing but optimistic about the future of arts in Las Vegas. "This is the only thing that's truly ours. We have no culture except what we put out there."
