Nightlife news & notes: new venues, Tao gives back and more

Posh Boutique Nightclub opened on April 1—no joke! Attached to Crazy Horse III, it’s halfway between a nightclub and a strip club, meaning the go-go dancers come from casinos, but the patrons still tip them singles. At 2 a.m., one of the Kill Bill films played on back-to-back screens, as Holly’s World star and Playboy Playmate Jayde Nicole charmed a group of guys in the VIP booth. So what one thing should patrons know about Posh? “All the servers have really good belly buttons,” says one—you guessed it—server. —Rick Lax
Posh isn’t the only venue that made its debut last weekend. Artifice, the Arts District bar and lounge with DIY decor, opened April 1 for First Friday and is now open nightly from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. The locally owned bar will hold its grand-opening festivities later in April. Joining Artifice just a few minutes away is Insert Coin(s), the Fremont East bar/arcade/hipster-hangout-in-the-making slated for an April 15 grand opening. Art, Galaga and cocktails? That’s one helluva night.
For hookah smokers looking to skip the nicotine, Nu Sanctuary at Town Square serves herbal hookahs that are totally nicotine-free. Made with herbal molasses and flavored honey, the hookahs can be ordered in varieties like apple, strawberry, peach, rose and jasmine for $20 a session with $10 refills. And if you want an extra buzz, you can order a shot of alcohol added to your hookah’s water. “When you’re smoking, the steam that goes along with it, you can actually taste the alcohol,” says manager George Assaf.
Tao Group is giving back. And not just gift bags for VIPs. The company has created Tao Cares, a charitable branch of the nightlife/restaurant powerhouse that is getting started with a benefit for Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund. Now through April 9, 100 percent of sales from items like Tao’s spicy king crab and avocado roll or Lavo’s Kobe beef carpaccio will go to the fund (ask your server for more!), along with $2 from each paying customer through the doors of Tao’s local clubs.
