Is the Gypsy Den winding down?

The venue is considering calling it quits

Three bands from Utah and a slew of local acts played the Gypsy Den for First Friday. It could go down as the one of the venue’s final shows. “It is so much work to put a show together, and it’s gotten so expensive with all the permits and stuff,” explains 28-year-old Den owner Katie Cewe, who has helped turn the DIY thrift store and venue into a First Friday staple since 2008. “Nothing is finalized, but I understand why the Farm closed down. Unless I charge at the door, it doesn’t even out."

Salt Lake City’s Shark Speed drew some fans to its upbeat pop-rock set, which was followed by performances from pop duo The Neighbors and hip-hoppy rockers The Vibrant Sound. But the overall vibe of the evening was a little more somber than most after attendees caught wind that the show might be the beginning of the end for the Gypsy Den.
