At Hussong’s, ignorance in any language
Wed, Apr 13, 2011 (3:05 p.m.)
Does “Hussong” sound like an Asian name to you? Apparently it did to enough customers of the restaurant inside the Shoppes at Mandalay Place that the cantina-taqueria took notice and is trying to combat misinformation with “Hussong’s—It’s Not Chinese” Wednesdays, which offers Dos Equis sake bombs, “tushi” and forced lessons on the joint’s more than 100-year history in Baja. Personally, I don’t see the humor in a Mexican restaurant offering Japanese fusion dishes on a night meant to reinforce the fact they’re not Chinese. Oh, and the stereotypical cartoon Chinaman on the official flyer? That’s not Chinese, either. That’s ignorance, Hussong’s.
