When Clydesdale singer Paige Overton isn’t working on new songs, she’s doing her part to make the world a little greener. The rockabilly bombshell and her bandmates delivered a nearly two-hour set at the Gypsy Den during last Friday’s Earth Day Cleanup Celebration. No horsin’ around.

“We really like giving back to the community and we’re definitely about being green,” Overton says. “If you’re gonna play an awareness show, it should really call true to your heart, and it calls true to ours.”

Overton’s vocal range commanded the attention of the small crowd during new songs like the twangy (and tangy) “Barbra Q Sauce” and a sped-up cover of Dolly Parton’s classic “Jolene.”

Though the veteran cowpunks have been less present on the scene this year, Overton says they’re back in the saddle now, with a new CD in the works and a tentative late-2011 release date. “We’re crawling out from under our rock, and we’re ready to take the town by the balls again,” Overton says. Yeehaw!
