Joel Spencer’s group show Ice Cream Pop at 222 Imperial is refreshing eye candy this time of year when cooling off is on most everyone’s mind. Thirty artists created works that range from sensual imagery to Space-Age-themed pop art. Bomb Pops, ice cream, waffle cones and Push Ups make appearances in this fun summer show.

“It was fun to see where people went with it,” says Spencer, while licking a Bomb Pop, amid works by Three Bad Sheep, Biscuit Street Preacher, Shugs, JK Russ and Libby Lemonade.
Spencer is already planning 222 Imperial’s next group show, possibly based on the word “geek.” But through Aug. 31, savor the summer pastime. 222 Imperial is one of a few Arts District galleries staying open late on Fridays for the area art walk. Just don’t lick Raven Moonhawk’s scoop of ice cream made from a rugged chunk of quartz slapped in a leather cone.
