Eating in the neighborhood means familiar food and comfortable surroundings, but service makes all the difference.
The Details
- Mi Tierra

When a new Mexican restaurant called Mi Tierra opened around my way at the end of summer, I wished for tangy, tender green chile pork, fresh and chunky guacamole, and better-than-average salsa on the table. Mi Tierra does all those things, and adds a satisfying house special chicken dish with bright tomatillo sauce and melted cheese. But the overwhelming friendliness is what keeps me coming back: the door-opening, the speedy seating, the drinks refilled in a flash.
The menu is standard, straightforward Mexican-American fare with few surprises. The prices are affordable, like $8.25 for a big deep-fried beef chimichanga covered in rich ranchero sauce. The dining room is neat, clean and cozy, and usually full of families. And now you know why ... good food and smiles all around is the right first impression in this neighborhood.
