What to expect when the City of Las Vegas closes its offices for the holidays

If you want to pay a traffic ticket in person during the closure, you are out of luck.

As part of ongoing measures to cut costs, the City of Las Vegas will be closing its offices from the Friday before Christmas to the Tuesday after New Year’s to save approximately $40,000 (they did the same thing last year). Sure, odds are you don’t have much business to conduct with the city during the holidays, but we figured we’d let you know what you can and can’t expect during that time:

•Public safety services (police, fire, city marshals, animal control, jail) will remain open, as will sewage plant operations.

•No, you can’t park in handicap spaces during this time. Parking enforcement is still out in force.

•If you have to handle something at the city’s municipal courts, don’t worry, they’re still open for business.

•If you want to pay bills or a traffic ticket in person, apply for a business license or a special permit, sorry, you’re out of luck—City Hall and the Development Services Center will be closed. However, the city’s website, lasvegasnevada.gov, offers many services online.

•City parks are still open—just wear a coat, for heaven’s sake.
