Pizza … in a boat

How hungry do the words “pizza gondola” make you?

You know the saying about sex and pizza. But have you heard the one about the mysterious “2 Eggs Gondola Pizza” ($6.99)? It may look like word soup, but it’s one of the specialties at Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria.

Restaurant Guide

Big Mama’s & Papa’s Pizzeria
1370 E. Flamingo Road., 733-9499.
Daily, 10 a.m.-midnight.

The business started in 1974 and has grown into a franchise with many California locations, but there’s only one in Las Vegas. Shaping thin crust dough into what looks more like a fat canoe, the pizza artists sprinkle mozzarella, feta and butter inside. Then they crack two eggs on top, plus any toppings you desire ($.70 each) and bake until bubbling. With fresh tomato, red onion, Greek olives and pepperoncini, mine was a delightful mash of mostly intense flavors. The eggs come medium, but you can request well done or scrambled, and delivery is an option on orders of more than $10.

So what’s the saying? Breakfast is always better with cheese.
