Robert Davies has a thing for good wine. He’s been a winemaker, a wine importer and a private chef. He has 700 bottles in his personal collection and currently works as a buyer for Whole Foods locations in Nevada and Arizona. With New Year’s Eve around the corner, Davies recommended six bottles sold exclusively at Whole Foods that are perfect for your midnight toast.

Melandri Lambrusco

This Italian sparkling red is a crowd-pleaser with a sweet finish perfect for pairing with chocolate desserts. Try it over ice in summer with muddled cherries and a splash of soda. $6.99.

J.P. Chenet Blanc de Blancs

With fresh, fruity notes and high acidity, the J.P. Chenet is a Davies favorite that cuts through rich, creamy foods. $9.99.

Toso Brut

This Argentine sparkler is made from 100 percent Chardonnay grapes for clean, crisp taste with great balance. $10.99.

Pirovano Prosecco Extra Dry

Don’t be fooled by names: Prosecco is Italy’s answer to champagne. Dry and pleasantly effervescent, this bottle is one of Whole Foods’ top sellers. $14.99.

Collet Champagne Brut

Regularly priced at $49.99, Davies points to this as both a personal favorite and a great deal. He calls the wine “absolutely divine” and says it competes with the “big boys” at a great price point. $34.99.

Nicolas Feuillatte Brut Extreme

Extreme might not be the first word that comes to mind with champagne, but here it means the wine isn’t finished with extra sugar. That makes for an extremely dry champagne—ideal for when you want something special. $49.99
