Where to go and what to eat this week

Image

Tim Allen begins 10 weeks of stand-up at The Venetian this weekend.

GO

Tim Allen This guy’s been doing television and movies for so long, few remember he started out as a stand-up comedian. Expect plenty of adult, alpha-male humor from Allen, who begins a 10-week residency. February 5, 8 p.m., $56-$96, Venetian Showroom.

The Steelwells One of our favorite things about Vegas’ Neon Reverb music fest: all the cool bands it introduces us to. These OC indie popsters lit up the Aruba in September. February 4, 9 p.m., $5, Bunkhouse.

Firenze Sextet Some of the Valley’s best string players come together for a night of Schubert and Brahms. February 5, 2 p.m., $10, Winchester Cultural Center.

Diane Bush See working-class 1970s England through the clever eye of this Las Vegan and her compelling black-and-white C-prints. Through February 26, Brett Wesley Gallery.

HANG

E-String Grill Casinos aside, finding live music in suburbia can be difficult. This venue really fills the void. We suggest starting with Wednesday, blues night. 2031 W. Sunset Road, 437-8764.

SEE

31 days of Oscar Turner Classic Movies shows lots of vintage gems, but this month’s schedule is especially worthwhile—hundreds of Oscar-winning and -nominated films, from famous to forgotten. Through March 3.

Justified Timothy Olyphant is great as a trigger-happy Kentucky marshal in this darkly amusing crime series. The second season promises a whole new group of deceptively devious hillbilly antagonists. Wednesdays, 10 p.m., FX.

Royal Pains On the most character-driven USA network procedural, the dynamic that concierge doctor Hank Lawson has developed with his family, clients and colleagues will keep you tuning in. Thursdays, 9 p.m., USA.

UNLV at BYU Off the Rebels bandwagon? Maybe they can pull off the upset in Provo to get you back on. Worst case, you’ll get to watch NCAA leading scorer Jimmer Fredette fill up another stat sheet. February 5, 1 p.m., Versus.

DRINK

Clara Funneled lately? Jaleo’s beer-and-lemonade mix comes by the glass or porrón, a long-spout pitcher for pouring straight into your mouth. At Cosmo.
