Why you need to know Red Eye Radio

This is a cover band with a serious difference

The term “cover band” carries some serious baggage, but Red Eye Radio doesn’t seem concerned. The local act takes audiences beyond the usual worn-out lounge experience—with a throwback college-radio repertoire. Three things to know: The group is used to the stage. Singer Bryan Todd also fronts The Novelty Act, while drummer Michael McDonald plays in The Big Friendly Corporation. Miss your dorm days? Red Eye runs the alternative-music gamut. Good luck finding another band that covers Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android” and The Flaming Lips’ “She Don’t Use Jelly.” If you’re passed a Post-it during a Red Eye show, feel free to request a song. Just steer clear of My Chemical Romance. If last week’s Beauty Bar gig was any indication, that won’t get played.
