The fourth-year Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater merges classical ballet with modern dance to present pieces that reflect social and historical issues, love, sexuality and struggle—mixed with Greek mythology. Cofounded and led by choreographer and dancer Bernard Gaddis—who moved to Las Vegas in 2004 to dance in Zumanity—the group strives to preserve and present the works of choreographers such as Alvin Ailey, Ulysses Dove, Katherine Dunham and Martha Graham. The athletic troupe’s 30-ballet repertoire even includes a series on female rulers: Cleopatra, Queen Elizabeth and Tomoe Gozen, a female Samurai warrior.
Friday night’s ballet, Love With LVCDT, is a free, Valentine’s-themed performance of select works from the company’s regular repertoire.
